01 / The Challenge

The Challenge

For the 2021 National Day of Service, we were asked to create a short-form piece honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. It needed to feel personal and powerful while working inside a 60-second social format.

02 / The Shift

The Shift We Made

We built a flowing visual tribute combining historical footage with contemporary animation and design, connecting Dr. King’s voice and vision with ongoing conversations around equity and community.

03 / The Work

How We Did It

I led creative concepting and hands-on production, personally animating the piece to maintain a unified emotional arc:

  • Curated and restored archival footage of Dr. King from public sources and edited it for narrative flow
  • Designed a layered visual story using CGI animation, animated typography, and textured overlays
  • Wrote and timed animated on-screen quotations to guide the narrative
  • Selected music and created original sound design synchronized with motion and historical audio
  • Delivered widescreen and vertical versions with captioning options

04 / What Happened Next

What Happened Next

A single visual story translated across widescreen and vertical formats
Captioning options supported viewing across social contexts
Archival footage and contemporary animation came together in one cohesive motion language

05 / Why It Mattered

Why It Mattered

The project treated archival material with respect while finding a contemporary visual language for it, giving Dr. King’s words renewed presence in a modern social feed.

The story is already there.
Let’s tell it well.
